What do you want to do when you retire?

If you are Molly Rowell of Pinehurst, you go to a meeting at Village Hall just intending to volunteer a little time. A month later, Ms. Rowell was chairman of the Greenway Wildlife Habitat Committee, and it’s been like that for the past 15 years.

Tuesday, the Village of Pinehurst recognized Molly with an official resolution during a public meeting. The resolution expresses deep appreciation and gratitude for her work as Beautification Committee Chair.

In reading from the resolution, Mayor John Strickland said, “Whereas, Ms. Rowell was instrumental in the efficient operation of the Beautification Committee always conducting the Village’s business in a courteous, professional manner: and

“Whereas, Ms. Rowell was deeply involved in planning and implementing the annual decorating of the Village for Christmas in both the Village Center and the surrounding historic district, a tradition which has brought great pleasure to residents and visitors to Pinehurst alike; and

“Whereas, Ms. Rowell was instrumental in numerous beautification projects throughout the Village, in conjunction and cooperation with various garden clubs, North Carolina Department of Transportation, and the Village of Pinehurst Public Services Department.”

After receiving her framed proclamation, Ms. Rowell said, “It has been a pleasure and honor for me to work with the volunteers, staff members and Village council members for the last 15 years. It has been a joy to work with the administrative team and all of the folks here in the Village.

“From Jeff Sanborn through Natalie Hawkins, especially to Jeff Baton, Mike Ackey and Walt Morgan. When you get the kind of support that you get from these people, anything is possible. Especially to all the Village council members and the mayors that have been through here in the last 15 years. It’s just always been an honor. So thank you very much.”
